LPs, EPs and singles
DesperationSingle · 2025 · 1 track
I finished it after almost a year of artist’s block. It’s the third single from Simple Things and one of the most intimate songs of my career.
Rain or ShineSingle · 2023 · 1 track
The second single from my Simple Things anthology: a rhythmic ballad with an 80s and 90s rock feel, about a father and his daughters when distance comes between them.
Strangers in a Coffee ShopSingle · 2022 · 1 track
It opens my Simple Things anthology. A simple song, deep and melancholic, about feeling small when you can’t talk to the one person you’d want for yourself.
Two Kicks and a BulliedEP · 2020 · 3 tracks
INXS is the reason The Poor Toms exists. Here are two of their songs done my way, plus Shine, a story about bullying.
Life WhisperSingle · 2020 · 2 tracks
I first recorded it for the UNO demo. In 2020 I re-recorded it on the same base and added Bridges on piano and voice. It’s about how fragile life is.
ApocalypseSingle · 2020 · 1 track
It goes back to the 90s and X-it, my first project. In 2020 I finished it, produced it and wrote the lyrics, about human decay through technology and social media.
The BalladsEP · 2019 · 5 tracks
It was going to be an LP, but the industry changed, so I released it as my first concept EP: ballads with different sounds and themes. Out in 2019.
Reinicio (Versión Irónica)Single · 2018 · 1 track
My first official single, reworked from the UNO demo. It’s “instrumental”, but you hear the voices of those who governed Mexico before 2018, as an ironic jab.
UNODemo · 2011 · 4 tracks
The 2011 demo with the songs and ideas I started this project with. You can hear the basic gear. It’s only on Bandcamp.

The Poor Toms is my music project. I’m Juan Luis Salazar Regnier. I was born in Mexico City, and I’ve lived in Querétaro for almost 30 years.
I started my journey as a musician and songwriter in the 90s with the band X-it, and I’ve rescued several of my songs from that project, bringing them into today’s styles. You can still hear the styles that shaped me: classic rock, progressive rock, new wave, post-punk, alternative rock, underground and many more that stay alive in the sounds, effects, lyrics and instruments of TPT.
My path as a musician, and above all as a drummer, began 36 years ago. I’ve shared the stage with cover bands like Bajo Fianza, The Fifth Stone and plenty of others, and with original-music projects like Freebreakers, MAAT, Los Kubrix and X-it.
I’m a drummer first, but I also consider myself a multi-instrumentalist. You can hear it across my whole discography: to this day, I handle the songwriting, performance, recording, editing, mixing and production myself. I make music about me, thinking about the stories around me and the ones woven into city landscapes.
Step into my music, travel with me.

I Melt With You (Modern English Cover)
I recorded this cover at home during the COVID-19 lockdown, as a tribute to Modern English and the 80s new wave and post-punk they came from. I dedicate it to everyone stuck indoors when the world, and time with it, seemed to stop: a nudge to pull closer to the people beside you and reach the ones far away online.
